Physical Description

Paper, about 9 3/8 in. by 6 3/4 consisting of 82 leaves, some of which are much stained and torn, especially foll. 1, 30, 35—39,43— 47, and 74—82, whilst others have been repaired at a comparatively early period. The quires, signed with letters, were probably 11 in number; but the first is lost, and of the last two only a few fragments remain. There are, besides, lacunae after foll. 37 and 46. Each page has 15 lines.

Hand 1 (sole, Unspecified Syriac script): This manuscript is written in a large, regular character, dated A. G. 1562, A.D. 1251.
Decoration (Ornamentation): At the commencements of the ܡܪ̈ܡܝܬܐ, in both parts of this Choir-book, there are interlaced ornaments, highly coloured with different paints; e.g. foll. 3 b, 19 a, 32 b, 89 a, 96 a, 108 a, etc.

Notes:
  • The Psalms are not numbered or distinguished by headings, but the ܡܪ̈ܡܝܬܐ and ܫܘܒ̈ܚܐ are rubricated in the text (e. g. foll. 3b, 6a, etc.).
  • The commencement of each versicle is marked by the letter ܐ, and the versicle is divided by ܗ (ܗܠܠܘܝܗ).
  • There are now missing: Ps. i. 1—xx. 5; large portions of Ps.lxix.—lxxiv., and lxxx.— lxxxvii.; Ps. cxviii. 170—176; and the greater part of Ps. cxix.—cl., as well as of the Canticles.
  • For the date, etc., see no. CCIX., which is bound up with it.

Physical Description

Paper, about 9 3/8 in. by 6 3/4, consisting of 50 leaves (Add. 17,256, foll. 83—132), some of which are stained and torn, especially foll. 83, 93, 94, 103, 104, 131, and 132. The. quires, 11 in number, are, signed with letters, and also with Coptic, ciphers at the top, (fol. 84 a, ; fol. 94 a, ). The first six have been lost, with the exception of a single loaf.

Hand 1 (major, Unspecified Syriac script): The writing, date, etc., are the same as of the preceding number.
Hand 2 (minor, Unspecified Syriac script): See additions.

  • Accordingly, the commencement of each verse is marked by the letter ܒ.
  • Ps. i. 1—lxxxiv. 11 are wanting, with the exception of part of Ps. xxxii. and xxxiii. (fol. 83).
  • The Canticles are complete, viz., the first song of Moses, fol. 126 b; the song of Isaiah, fol. 127 b; and the second song of Moses, fol. 128 a.

Addition 1 (Fol. 131a): On fol. 131 a there is a note, stating that the two parts of this Psalter were written, A. G. 1562, A.D. 1251, in the convent of S. Mary Deipara, by a monk named Bacchus, when Ignatius was patriarch of Antioch Ignatius II. See Assemani, Bibl. Or., t. ii.
