Physical Description
Vellum, 15 3/8 in. by 12 5/8, consisting of 235 leaves, some of which are slightly stained and soiled. The quires, 23 in number, are signed with letters. Each page is divided into two columns, of from 24 to 39 lines.
Hand 1 (major, Estrangela script):
The writing is a large, regular Estrangela, with a few Greek
vowels. This volume was written A. Gr. 1318, A.D. 1007, as appears from
the colophon of Add. 12,148.
Hand 2 (minor, Unspecified Syriac script):
The handwritings on foll. 5 b, 6,
7 a, and 235, are more modern; and the
same hands have occasionally added marginal notes throughout the volume.

- As these running titles indicate, the services consist of canons, chants, hymns and prayers for the various hours of the festivals and other holy days of the Church. The names of the authors are not attached to the canons, chants or hymns, though some of the madrāshē are ascribed on the margins to Ephraim (e.g. foll. 34 b, 50 a, 67 b, 83 a, 128 b, 138 b, 139 b, 143 b, 212 a and b); whereas bā’ǎvāthā are invariably assigned either to Ephraim or Jacob of Batnae, according to the metre in which they are composed.
- But on fol 9 b we read ܕܡ̇ܫܬܡܠ̣ܐ ܒܚܕܒܫܒܐ ܕܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܬܫܪܝܢ ܩܕܝܡ, "which is celebrated on the second Sunday of the first Teshrīn".

On the margin of Fol. 193 a is written ϯⲠᾺΝΗ͂ⲦⲤΊⲤ
Both the Greek (ϯⲠᾺΝΗ͂ⲦⲤΊⲤ) and the Syriac (ܕܐܰܦܳܘ݊ܦܰܢܛܻܝ) words here are corruptions, the one of ὑπαπαντή, the other of ὑπάντησις. On fol. 208 a the word is written ܦܰܢܛܰܣܺܝܣ.
