Physical Description

Vellum, about 8 7/8 in. by 5 3/4, consisting of 27 leaves, a few of which are much stained and torn, especially foll. 11—14, 26, and 27. The quires, signed with letters, were originally at least 9 in number (ܛ, fol. 27 a), but only one of them (ܙ) is now complete, leaves being wanting at the beginning and end, as well as after foll. 4, 10, 14, 24, 25, and 26. Each page is divided into two columns of from 31 to 60 lines.

Hand 1 (major, Unspecified Syriac script): This volume is written in a small, neat hand of the viiith or ixth cent.

Note: The patriarch Severus of Antioch is mentioned as the author of several of them, but his name has been everywhere erased, yet not so as to be wholly illegible.

ܦܪ̈ܘܣܦܘܪܝܩܘܢ
Note: Jacob of Batnae, ܡܪܝ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܣܪܘܓܝܐ, is named as the author of one of them, fol. 4 a.
Item 4 (Fol. 4a): Stanzas to be chanted by the priests on breaking the consecrated bread.

Addition 1: The original writing on fol. 14 has been in great part erased, and a ܡܕܪܫܐ ܕܚܫܐ, or Passion - hymn, substituted, in the metre of Jacob. ܆ܫܘܒܚܐ ܢܙܡܪ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܚܫܗ ܕܝܚܕܝܐ (sic)ܕܠܣܛܢܐ ܙܟܐ ܒܨܠܝܒܗ ܘܥܕܝ (sic)ܒܙܬܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܦܪܩܗ ܠܥܠܡܐ ܒܨܠܝܒܘܬܗ ܡܢ ܫܘܠܛܢܗ
Addition 2: The original writing on foll. 26 and 27 has been carefully erased, and these leaves now contain short hymns of Ephraim and Jacob of Batnae, fol. 26, for the Resurrection, New (or Low) Sunday, the Ascension, fol. 27, the Epiphany, the Commemoration of S. Simeon the Aged, and Lent, in a hand of the xth or xith cent.
