Physical Description

Vellum, about 11 7/8 in. by 9 1/2, consisting of 88 leaves, several of which are much stained and torn, especially foll. 1, 42, 52, and 53. The quires, of which the original number is uncertain, seem to have been signed with letters (see fol. 43 a, ܝ) Leaves are wanting after foll. 38, 40, 51, 52, 53 and 72. Each page is divided into two columns, of from 22 to 26 lines. Fol. 12-15 and fol. 88 are later additions of the xiith and xiiith centuries (see

    Hand 1 (sole, Estrangela script): The writing is a fine, bold Esṭrangělā, probably of the latter half of the vth cent. There are no vowels, and very few diacritical points of any sort, except the ribūi. The punctuation too is exceedingly simple, consisting of single red points, except at the end of paragraphs or sections, where we find �� �� ��, ���, ��, �, �, ���, and the like.The original description of this manuscript by William Wright includes characters, symbols, or illustrations which cannot be represented. Please consult the attached image, vol. 1, p. 73.

    Addition 1 (Fol. 6b): The text of this manuscript has been altered in many places on foll. 6 b—8 a, in order to bring it into uniformity with that in common use.
    Addition 2 (Fol. 3b): There is no indication of lessons, except on the margins by two or three more recent hands (see, for example, foll. 3 b, 4 a, 5 b, 25 b, 33 b, etc.)
    Addition 3 (Fol. 1a): A note on fol. 1 a, in a current hand of about the xth cent., informs us that the volume belonged to a monk named Habībai or Habīb, who presented it to the convent of S.
