Physical Description

Vellum, about 14 1/2 in. by 10 1/2, consisting of 313 leaves, some of which are much stained and torn, especially foll. 1, 8, 84, 308, 311, 312 and 313. The quires, signed with letters, were originally 35 in number, but of ܐ and ܒ only three leaves remain, and leaves are also wanting after foll. 7, 8, 14, 189, 191 and 195. Each page, with the exception of foll. 301—303, is divided into two columns, of from 37 to 42 lines.

Hand 1 (major, Unspecified Syriac script): This volume is written in a good, regular character, and dated A. Gr. 1179, A.D. 868.

Addition 10 (Fol. 313): Of the note that follows, precisely the most important part is nearly illegible. It appears, however, that the volume was written at the expense of the deacon George, son of the deacon John, from a village in the district of Antioch, for the convent of ܐܒܘ ܠܡܘܬ; and that it was collated and corrected by Bar-had-běshabbā, from the convent of S. Addition 11 (Fol. 97a): The scribe Addai has also inserted his name in the subscriptions to the first and second parts of the volume,foll. 97 a and 197 b. In both places a later hand has drawn a circle and partly coloured it with red paint, verses being written in the uncoloured spaces in praise of Severus and to the Holy Cross. ܠܟ ܛܘܒܝܟ ܡܪܝ ܣܐܘܝܪܐ. ܕܪܚ̇ܡ ܫܪܪܐ ܡܬ݀ܦ̣ܫܩ. ܕܟܠ ܕܐܬܗ̇ܓܝ ܒܝܘ̈ܠܦܢܝܟ. ܒܫܪܪܐ ܩ̇ܐܡ ܟܠ ܫܥ.

Addition 13 (Fol. 313b): From a note on fol. 313 b we learn that the monks of ܒܝܬ ܐܒܘ ܠܡܘܬ sent this manuscript as a present to the convent of S. Mary Deipara, where it arrived in the year 1206, A.D. 895.
